On like the earlier versions of windows where you go to windows update setting and disable it, windows 10 is quite different. we are going on simple walk through with images on how to do this.
feel free to ask questions if you encounter any difficulties.
STEP 1
press win + R key on your keyboard
STEP 2
type in the following command "gpedit.msc"
The following windows will open
Navigate to following directory from the left pane
computer configuration\Administrative Templates\windows component\Windows Update
Now click on windows update and do the exact in the image below
click apply and click ok
now you can do update manually without windows automatically downloading it to save your data.
To Enable Auto Update, perform the steps again, only this time you need to click "Enable" on the last step
